The Birth of the
Thermal Envelope Company

“If it doesn’t work here, it won’t work anywhere.”

— Art Carlson, founder TEC

The Thermal Envelope Company began when Art Carlson, the company founder, built his own home in the Sun Valley, Idaho Area.

He needed an insulation system that would create a comfortable surrounding, retain heat consistently in all parts of the home and save energy.

As a young mechanical engineer with IBM, the application of thermal dynamics in the insulation process was intriguing to Art. Particularly, the application of thermal properties to improve efficiency to any home, any building, anywhere.

He responded to a need to protect his home in the severely cold Idaho winter, wanting to stay comfortable inside and implement a system that could save him money. He came up with a solution that goes way above building code because Art and the Thermal Envelope Company know comfort lives above building code.

The result is a simple and cost effective insulation system that is proven in the coldest and most dramatic climates.
